January 01, 2007 By: Eva Jeannine Meloche Why so many chemicals & additives in your beauty products?Did Article 2 brought you some insight into minor problems you remembered having in the past with your beauty products which you probably have thrown out soon afterward? And you probably went to the store to buy others. Were they better? Did they serve you well? There is presently an overload of chemicals and additives used in body care products that manufacturers are not talking about. Becoming aware of this is a great step in the right direction for healthy skin. And continuing to learn on these used in beauty products will get us smarter. Alcohol (isopropyl): As a solvent, this ingredient if found in hair color, body rubs, hand lotions, aftershave lotions, fragrances and many other skin care products. If inhaled, it may cause headaches, flushing, dizziness, mental depression, nausea, and vomiting. BHA(Butylated hydroxyanisole),BHT(Butylated hydroxytoluene) are preservatives commonly used in cosmetics and body care products. BHA is absorbed through the skin, stored in body tissues, suspected human carcinogen and a xenoestrogen. BNPD(Bronopol)contain formaldehyde which is carcinogen and neurotoxin. Hazardous for nitrosamine formation when combined with DEA or TEA. May cause allergic reaction, irritation to the eyes, and dries out skin and eyes. Fragrances: Synthetic fragrances do not contain only one ingredient but are made up of hundreds of chemicals. Some, such as methylene chloride, are carcinogenic and others can cause brain damage. According to research, 95% of chemicals in fragrances are derived from petroleum. These are easily absorbed by the skin. How many fragrances are you putting on your skin on a daily basis? What will you do today to reduce the amount of these dangerous ingredients you put on your skin? I invite you to continue to increase your knowledge not only on chemicals and additives but also on organic and natural ingredients that companies, recommended on my website, are using in the creation of healthy skin care products.
