December 31, 2006 By: Eva Jeannine Meloche Why put chemicals on your face?Hope that the first article brought you some knowlegde on how to choose your beauty products. Are you still having problems? Let's look in greater depth which ingredients sabotage the health and beauty of your skin.Let's start with the ACB... Aluminum chlorohydrate: Chemically a salt which is used in antiperspirant preparations. It is used to block pores so sweat will not be released by the skin. Very often, aluminum stays in the body and may create challenging health problems. It has been linked to Alzheimer's disease. Studies show that it travels more freely into the lymphatic system when underarms are shaved. Some research also indicates that there may be a link to breast cancer. Please check your antiperspirants and deodorant for words such as aluminum chlorohydrate, ammonium aluminum sulfate, potassium alum, potassium aluminum sulfate, mineral salts or crystal. Ammonium glycolate: This chemical is found in many of your beauty products. Check your facial moisturizer/treatment, exfoliant/scrub, facial cleanser, anti-aging, around-eye cream, acne treatment, skin fading/lightener, suncreen/tanning oil, nail treatment and other products. This ingredient was found in some skin care products such as MD Forte, Neutrogena, Avon, and Md formulations and may also be in other beauty products. It is an irritant to the eye, skin and lungs, cancer hazard, immune system toxicants (allergies and sensitivity). Check also for ammonium chloride, ammonium laureth sulfate in the list of ingredients of your skin care products. Artificial Colors and Dyes: Such as FD&C are derived from petroleum or coal tar. They may be often the cause of allergies to cleaning products, and may irritate a person skin or eyes. Many are carcinogenic. Benzoates: Benzoate acid, sodium benzoate or parahydroxy benzoate. It is a white crystalline salt as a food preservative and antiseptic. It is used as a preservative in cosmetics and fizzy drinks. It may cause gastric irritation, numbing of the mouth and aggravates asthma. I invite you to look at past instances when you had irritations to your skin and eyes. Could these chemicals and additives be the culprit? Get your products out and count the number of times these ingredients are listed on the bottles. What will you do about it? Check the list of ingredients of the beauty products recommended on my website. If you find chemicals & additives in the products, don't buy them. But if you don't find them but instead find healthy ingredients, go for it and buy them. Renewing your beauty products cabinet will garantee you safer, healthier and youthful skin. In the next article, we will continue to look into other chemicals and additives that may be causing you health problems. Stay tune.
